From a single printer in the garage — to this.
A Coach Who Got Tired of Watching Coaches Use Water Bottles as Boats
Out on the water, I kept seeing the same thing: coaches grabbing whatever was nearby — water bottles, booties, flip-flops — just to show sailors where to go on the course. It worked, sort of. But it wasn't clear, it wasn't consistent, and it definitely wasn't teaching racing rules.
Back at the whiteboard it wasn't much better. Stick boats, ambiguous arrows, and sailors more focused on the terrible drawings than the actual lesson.
So I built something better. In 2020, the first set of magnetic 3D-printed boat tokens came off the printer. Coaches who saw them immediately asked where they could get a set. By 2023, NJP Boatworks was the answer.
Everything we make starts with a real problem from real coaching. If it doesn't make sessions clearer, faster, or more effective — it doesn't get made.

The Timeline
First product launch
The first set of 3D-printed magnetic boat tokens came off the printer. Tested on whiteboards at junior regattas all summer — coaches immediately got it.
NJP Boatworks launched
Officially launched as NJP Boatworks. Small-batch production, sold direct to coaches and programs.
First bulk order
A sailing club placed the first multi-kit order for their full coaching staff. The feedback from that order shaped the kit you can buy today.
